THERE IS LOT OF LOOT GOING ON IN MEDICAL LAB TESTS. UP TO 50% COMMISSIONS ARE BEING GIVEN TO THE PRESCRIBING DOCTORS BY THE TESTING LABS. THIS IS PROMPTING DOCTORS TO WRITE UNNECESSARY TESTS, WITH THE MAIN AIM OF GETTING ADDITIONAL INCOME.

VERY FREQUENTLY SOME TESTS KNOWN AS SINK TESTS ARE GOT DONE. THE LAB THROWS THE SAMPLES IN SINK AND GIVE NEGATIVE REPORTS. THE BOOTY IS SHARED BY THE LABS AND DOCTORS.

THERE IS A REGULAR COURIER SERVICE BETWEEN DOCTORS AND LABS FOR DISTRIBUTION OF COMMISSION PACKETS. IN RECENT STRING OPERATION BY A WELL KNOWN NEWS CHANNEL MANY LABS ADMITTED ON CAMERA OF PASSING ON COMMISSION TO DOCTORS. THE NEWS REPORTER POSED AS REPRESENTATIVE OF A NURSING HOME AND BARGAINED FOR THE COMMISSION/CUT BEING GIVEN FOR SENDING PATIENTS.

MANY COSTLY TESTS LIKE MRI ARE PRESCRIBED BY MANY DOCTORS WITHOUT SUFFICIENT REASONS JUST FOR THE SAKE OF EARNING COMMISSION.

THE RATES CHARGED BY MOST LABS ARE DOUBLE THE RATES PRESCRIBED BY THE CGHS ( GOVT. HEALTH SERVICE) AND LABS ARE CONDUCTING TESTS AT THAT RATES WHENEVER CGHS PATIENTS TO THE SAME LABS. THIS ITSELF PROVES THAT THE LABS ARE OVERCHARGING TO THE GENERAL PATIENTS.

IT IS HIGH TIME THAT THE GOVERNMENT COMES OUT WITH FAIR RATE LIST FOR ALL TESTS CONDUCTED BY THE LABS. THE LABS SHOULD BE MADE TO FOLLOW THE RATE LIST SO PRESCRIBED, FAILING ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO CANCEL THEIR LICENSES.

THIS WILL SAVE THE PATIENTS FROM BEING OVERCHARGED AS WELL AS FROM UNNECESSARY TESTS BEING PRESCRIBED BY THE DOCTORS. WHEN DOCTORS WILL CEASE FROM GETTING COMMISSIONS, THEY WILL NOT ASK FOR UNNECESSARY TESTS. more

LOOT IN MEDICAL TREATMENT PAID THROUGH HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES. WHEN WE APPROACH A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT BEING PAID THROUGH MEDICAL HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES, A HIGHLY JACKED UP ESTIMATE OF THE TREATMENT IS GIVEN AND SENT TO THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY THROUGH THE TPA. WHICH IS MOSTLY APPROVED, AS IT IS PREPARED BY PROFESSIONAL WELL ACQUAINTED WITH THE APPROVAL PROCEDURE AND SYSTEM. THE EXTRA MONEY IS POCKETED BY THE HOSPITAL AND THE DOCTORS. EVEN PATIENT IS ASKED TO PAY EXTRA FOR CONSUMABLES AND MEDICINES NOT COVERED IN THE POLICY. THE PATIENT ALREADY IN STRESS OF SICKNESS HAS NO VALID METHOD OF CROSS CHECKING THE SAME. THE HOSPITAL ALSO INSISTS FOR HOSPITALIZATION FOR PROCEDURES LIKE SIMPLE JOBS LIKE CATARACT REMOVAL, TO JACK UP THE BILL. IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING PERMISSION FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY LOT OF VALUABLE TIME IS LOST AND AT TIMES IT MAY BE FATAL FOR THE PATIENTS, NEEDING URGENT MEDICAL TREATMENT. INSURANCE COMPANIES SHOULD PROVIDE CASHLESS TREATMENT IN AT LEAST ONE HOSPITAL IN EACH CITY AND IT SHOULD BE MENTIONED IN THE INSURANCE POLICY. WHEN THE INSURANCE COMPANIES SETTLES CLAIMS DIRECTLY WITH THE HOSPITALS, THE LOOT CAN BE CHECKED UP TO SOME EXTENT. more

PLEASE HIGHLIGHTS ON MEDICAL INSURANCE ALSO. WHEN WE GO FOR TREATMENT IN HOSPITAL . THEY WILL ASK YOU AFTER OPERATION WEATHER YOU WANT A SINGLE ROOM OR DOUBLE ROOM . IF YOU ASK FOR SINGLE THEN YOUR OT , ICU , DOCTOR VISIT AND YOUR TEST CHARGES BECOME 3 TIMES WHY ? IT IS SAME OT , ICU, DOCTORS VISIT ARE SAME FOR SINGLE ROOM AND DOUBLE ROOM. THEY SHOULD CHARGE ONLY SINGLE ROOM OR DOUBLE ROOM CHARGES DIFFERENCE . THIS IS BIG LOOT IN MEDICAL AND HOSPITALS . In my view, when the prices of any other commodity and services have been under forbearance, the prices/rates of medical test laboratories and doctors cannot be controlled. What the authorities should come out is a strict quality control. In case any price or rate control is suggested then it should be controlled even at the input stage. Normally it takes 10 years for any person to come out with as a Doctor. Doctors if come out with a study in private colleges/ university also has to spend crore of rupees with costly books and aids. The engineer after 5 years is able to earn about 10-15 Lakh a year but the doctor is still being burdened with hefty input cost and then a doctor is also working under unsecured condition. If there is a move of controlling rates/charges then it should be across the spectrum. more
In my opinion, registration of all medical lab should be made compulsory and Government must fix the rates of all test. The rates of test should be displayed on the notice board of the lab. Those who do not follow the norms, licence should be cancelled. Strict discipline is the key for all successes. Ram Yadav (Senior Citizen). more
