The moment you get down at Sahar you are greeted with the Stench of Mumbai ka gutter smell coming out of sea itself just go to any sea front in Mumbai-and you get this all pervading gutter smell-as city sewages are indiscriminately dumped into the sea for many decades-so don't dream of a SEA FRONT as the Sydney . more
For a population of our size with ever increasing traffic densities, we should be looking at horizons longer than at least 20 to 25-yrs. Makeover of Retiring Rooms shd be part of a comprehensive Station Area Makeover Plan (STAMP). Railway Station surroundings, if made to look spick and span without the haphazard ingress of flies, dust, and stink from unkempt toilets, riff-raff platform occupants, open urination, luggage trolleys, vehicular disarray, trolley fruit~vegetable~ice-cream vendors et al, e.g.., a busy Pune Railway Station can be spruced up to accommodate two-three high-ceiling (30 ft) "roomy-access car parks" over the Station area. Standardise the structures taking into account requirements of Railway Stations of similar category elsewhere in the country. First Floor for arriving trains, ground floor for departing trains and Second Floor Railway Offices incl Station Masters TTC (Travelling Ticketing Officers et al. Goods Booking Offices shd be located only at ground level. The Third and Fourth Floor should have a Food Court and Department Store with Rly Post Office, ATMs, Pharmacy, FX Trade Counters etc. Fifth to Tenth Floor you can have a 4-Star Hotel operate for the benefit of Passengers. Exercise strict Quality Assurance in construction and maintenance of these important auxiliary Passenger amenities. If the East-West, North-South Faces of Rly Stations are inter connectible have a bus terminal right under just one level below the Railway Track with connectivity to all corners of the city. Tourist tickets can include cost of bus tickets. Tourism Offices must operate at major Railway Station (Junctions) on 24x7 basis with adequate tourist info-guidance. more
MumbaiSeaFront should be designed to afford a mega "getaway" for Mumbaikars starved of parks, promenades and free space to walk in comfort undisturbed by motor traffic, with Queen's Necklace broadened to 16-Lane New Elevated Necklace Road along the seafront eventually joining into Worli-Colaba Freeway (part passing into a tunnel through the MalabarHills) Mumbai SeaFront will have a 3-way Railway connect with ChurchGate, CST, and another terminal at the tip of Colaba Causeway directly connecting to Bombay Central Railway Station. Give a tourism face to everything you plan mega, thanks to rich, populous Mumbai the Project will spin profits for the Project owners. Develop consortia of Captains of Industry -- as a CSR and supplement with suitable budget allocations from the State / Centre. This Mumbai project can be showcased as a model for future smart cities. I have recently been to Sydney (OZ) and very impressed by the Sea Front which is developed as tourist attraction. Instead of piece meal attempts, the Fort-ChurchGate area should be developed as the Business District backdrop of an ultra modern "MARINE DRIVE SEA FRONT" on the lines of "SYDNEY SEAFRONT" in Australia. If a SHIVAJI statue is planned, it should have a majestic presence in the midst of the Arabian Sea at a 200 feet high on an all Brown Granite Stone Pedestal, part covered, part with aesthetically designed neon signs, wide open walkways /promenades (shift the Prince of Wales Museum there?) with a day n night spectacle (Like OperaHouse in Sydney Harbour) attracting tourist traffic. The backdrop is Mumbai's Ultra-Modern Business district comprising a well spruced up Nariman Point~Churchgate~Fort area. Go to Sydney and see how they have developed the Sydney Seafront. Likewise develop a "Millennium Gateway of India" on the Elephenta Caves Island, if necessary by reclaiming the land. Connect Elephenta via Taj Hotel Gateway to Shivaji Gateway at NarimanPoint-Churchgate by a strong ropeway. Convert the tip of Mumbai Island too into a 50-storied Mumbai Tower. The DN Road~ChurchGate~NarimanPoint will evolve into a new necklace, dotted by inter-connected MagaMalls like in Sydney SeaFront Nyayapati V.L.N. Balramdas (@DarpanaLABS, Twitterrattzee) more
We want to see certain quick-fix success stories of Railway Stations /Bus Stands materializing fast, doesn't matter even if they are part make-shift, but the pig picture should evolve fast for showcasing at Rly Stations and even Airports. Such is the disgust with Cong-led Infra Satyanaash, Narayans cant wait anymore with this third-rate citizen treatment, not just by Media alone, but by every other facility provider in the country. Improve VT, Dadar and Pune on top priority and showcase them as SwachhBharat masterpieces more
