Appreciate, and happy that some one taking interest and sharing their experience with other. I am one of the sufferer on the road for nun of my fault. Police must reach the site at the earliest to save the situation for which public is paying lot of taxes through out their life till retirement. more
The situation on the roads in our country is more than critical and not to be under-rated at any cost. And one should not fight shy of sending repeated reminders to the authorities to guide drivers into exercising discipline on the roads. However, let's not assume that the traffic regulation authorities are holy saints, looking at what I witnessed today. On a relatively busy traffic road, the lights which regulate both vehicle traffic and pedestrian crossings were non-functional. Under these circumstances the driver will naturally go over the pedestrian crossing whenever he gets a chance BECAUSE the lights were not functional. Relatively difficult to comprehend when not 50 m from the zebra crossing a host of traffic policemen were stopping vehicles (cars, autos, tempos etc.) and "challaning" them for a hundred rupees for not stopping their vehicles when the pedestrians were crossing or "about to cross" the road. I even overheard a policeman telling a driver, "Tu hamein ab sikhavega ki hamein kya karma chahiye?" In my opinion, this was totally unfair. If the lights on pedestrian-crossing were non-functional, it was first of all the duty of traffic policemen to guide and regulate the traffic at the lights, not wait as predators to penalise the drivers, the decision for which was solely based on their subjective observations. No radar photos were available for clarification. In any case, what I witnessed today was CERTAINLY NOT "fair and objective". Although, I would like to say in the same breath, that our vehicle drivers need to finally learn to show some decent respect to pedestrians. more
I do appreciate the concern shown by Dr. Chandra Kanta. I do like to add at least we road users are right on the spot, it is they how should lend there hand instead of waiting for police. I suggest if possible road users especially 2 wheeler can stop the other lane, so that emergency service vehicle is given a pass, instead of waiting to red light green. I myself experienced a such experience at a crossing in NOIDA. I do not know that gentle man was related to the patient or not. But did save few critical seconds. more
