I disagree. Cancellation charges should be more for cancelling within 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. Reason is people simply book and leave even for a trip not confirmed as the cancellation charges are very less. Last day they will cancel. This causes problem for the real traveller. For genuine travellers cancellation happens once in year so makes not much problem for their pockets more

Though increase in cancellation charges will hit the genuine travelers, it is important as there are many who just book due to ease of online booking and plan to decide about actual travel later. many a times, even if they drop plan for travel, it doesn't hit them financially as cancellation charges were very less. It gave a kind of casual approach and attitude towards online booking and it impacted the genuine travelers who have definite plans of travel. In case, if it is really impacting senior citizens then some concession can be thought about in cancellation charges for senior citizens. All in all, I feel, its a good move to curb casual approach on ticket booking. more

I tried to book three seats in garib rath going ANVT from Varanasi. I wanted 2 lower seats and one middle. IRCTC booked one side middle seat and two other seats but not a single lower seat whereas more than 300 seats were vacant that time. I got cancelled the booking. An amount of Rs 500 deducted as cancellation charge. I think this way Railway is looting the passengers. more

I personally agree with Aniruddha sir, for Sr.Citizens it should be must thinkable... Jaykumar sir & Rajan Sir, your point is too correct but that is only for youngsters or frequently doing journey.... For Sr.Citizens they are not travelling all the year as like we.. Railway gives the 40% & 50% concession for Sr.Citizens which is reverse collectible from them with the way of Cancellation Charges. Sorry if I Am wrong friends...... more

I feel that the cancellation charges for Sr Citizens should be at least 75% lower than the normal charges if not 50%. There agin there should be slab before 24 hours, 48 hours , one week. Medical emergencies as in case of hospitalisation there should be no cancellations. These period wise or emergencies could be easily monitored due to internet and cyber programs. more

I agree with Rajan ; if the cancellation charges are less , then people will book unplanned tickets and cancel it according to their convenience . Any body wants to book a ticket well in advance they should confirm about their travel first ; then book the tickets. If unable to decide well in advance wait till they make a decision , confirm the travel destination and date and book tickets. Otherwise their advance booking[well in advance ] will stall the chances of many a genuine passengers to get confirmed tickets. more
