I believe that KC Rana's views are widely shared among Punjabis and Indians. Punjab has mostly had poorly educated self serving, sectarian persons as leaders. Punjab has failed to participate in the modern economy. It has remained largely a rural economy. It is regrettable that Punjab has become one of the most corrupt provinces in India. more

I suppose all the passengers travelling on paid tickets are covered under insurance, against any accident . Is there any policy for retired Rly employees, traveling on complimentary free passes, and unfortunately, they get injured or killed. If anyone has any knowledge about it, please inform us for information of other fellow retired citizens. On Jan 2, 2017 9:15 AM, "Virendra Gupta" wrote: > more
I share the concern expressed by Mr. Virendra Gupta on education in Punjab. Wish political parties come out with a road map in the forth coming election on this issue. Many other problems in Punjab are rooted in substandard education in the state. Special emphasize are needed for English, Math and science. more
Punjab's school system, especially government schools component, is in dire need of improvement. The government seems to have deliberately allowed the government schools to wither: not hiring the authorized number of teachers, high teacher absenteeism especially in rural schools, poor supplies, lack of evaluation of school and teacher performance, poor student performance in international competitions, etc. Punjab government's reports and UN reports paint a horrible and depressing picture of what is going in Punjab's government schools where the majority of rural and poor students go. A high performing school system is essential to Any province's long term progress. Unfortunately, our politicians are busy wasting time in petty quarrel or self promotion. May we find better informed and more responsible politicians. more
I share the views of Mr. Gupta, and wish to add a few more aspects. In Punjab, old feudal norms are respected - larger the size of land, better is holding of the family in social and political spheres. In urban areas, this transforms into amount of wealth. We need to counter it through social movements, cinemas, literature and consciously selecting candidates on the basis of merit (dedication). Second, over generations, about 30-40 families are controlling politics; just like business empires. Third, among people there is strong current of "Punjabi Josh"; "Yes we will overcome every obstacle and win at the end". History has proved the indomitable spirit time and again. This aspect needs to be promoted and cultivated, for which political campaign must focus on marginal sections of the society away from religion and castes. Campaign issues could focus on empowering of marginal sections - not dishing out doles. Not, building of temples but reforming government schools, recruiting faculty and students from all over the country, inviting and facilitating corporate companies, organizing all India (also international) events like film festivals, cultural events. There is strong need to go back to pre-independance day's norms of having "language" teachers than subject oriented Punjabi or English teachers, who know only one language. Promotion of events that bring all people together over religion based narrow events is another point. Celebrate demonetization! Celebrate Independence and Republic days in every mohalla! These events could have mass appeal irrespective of religion. more
