What is being done by Government agencies and NGOs is still not enough to help animals live with dignity. More resources need to be allocated to sterilization and vaccination of animals. Removal of garbage dumps will go a long way in controlling the population of stray animals, dogs, cats, rats and bull calves that are abandoned by owners because they cannot feed them. Snakes and birds are losing their habitat as well. protected green areas need to be created at points in the city where birds, animals can also have a share of proper living space and not be completely displaced .
Dog lovers need to do something, and control the population of these animals by suitable methods, as poor people are the victims, including 2 wheelers, and late night residents returning from bus stands etc are sacred by these animals, the concerned department of the Govt. has to control.
BBMP programs were better but recently they have stopped doing too much in this regard. They need to work aggressively on sterilization and help other NGOs working for stray animals welfare. Other people here should understand that its we who have made them stray by destroying all their habitat. So, plz stop calling them a menace. Its the menace that is created by us, the human beings which has not left any place for these poor animals to live. Also, Killing them is prohibited by law. The only way to control their population is the citizens' involvement in these activities rather than calling them a menace.
