There have been traffic related violence in the Garudahar Palya where many lumpen elements stay. They all get support from political forces which gives them impunity in displaying obnoxious behaviour with people who protest against irresponsible parking and road blocking. I hear of some ugly scenes that people have been pulled out of their cars and beaten with these locals bragging that the place belongs to them and they will do as they please. Since I have not had the experience directly, I am not taking any action from my side but still feel I should share so police gives attention to this matter.
I am raising another issue that bothers me and that is the issue of crackers. Bengaluru seems to be in celebration mode 365 days in a year. For some reason or other, when people die, or diwali or cricket, just about anything, they burst crackers throughout the night. We cannot hold religious functions and cultural programs beyond 10 pm even inside a hall where as the locals burst crackers as late as 3am/ 4am randomly causing unimaginable misery to animals, pets, old and sick people. Tyhe worst part is there is no days, time limits or any pattern. The Ganpathy festival is long over but crackers continue to trouble even till yesterday. Ashamed to admit that people conduct themselves in such irresponsible and insensitive way towards others, in a city which claims to be among the civilised ones. This is also because of the thriving goon culture now so much a part of this city, as witnessed during the recent Cauvery agitation.
Police should address the issue of crackers with seriousness. Either get the sale of crackers banned completely, which is the case in many civilised countries, or enforce the 10 O'clock time limit. Those violating the rule to be arrested at least for 3 -4 days with appropriate hospitality so that this sends a strong message. I understand there is no easy way to monitor and control it otherwise.
Appeal to the police to look into this serious matter. As a citizen we should support and cooperate with police in their duties, but they need to be proactive for citizens.
