A habit I find unique to Bangalore is putting up sign boards with names of streets or circles at a little over hip level and that too made of concrete supported by two pillars. This is ugly to the extreme, and useless for the purpose, as even if a car is standing in front of it, the sign is hidden and the purpose is lost. Why can't they take example even from our own city Mumbai, where signs of roads are put up on a strong pole planted firmly in the ground, and the the sign hanging at a height of about 10' from ground level so that it is plainly readable from a distance even with a car standing under it. In addition, they are not hand painted but made by machines with strong steel plates coated enamel so that it can withstand rain and shine. It looks quite elegant too. In short utility and aesthetics are missing in sign boards in Bangalore. svs
