Both the motorists and the police are equally responsible for the caotic traffic of Bangalore. As regards the motorists, the two wheelers are most indisciplened. They park whereever they want, ride on footpaths, clog all the lanes in signal points......four wheelers dont follow lane disciplene. Policemen are few in number, easily throw up their hands and can be easily bought over.
Bangalore traffic police is as responsible as the motorists for the caos in Bangalore. Two wheeleers riding on the footpath, cars and buses standing in the wrong lane overtaking from the left traffic constables talking on the mobile phone while on duty all add to the disaster.
One of the worst places in the world to drive. Educated, uneducated, rich, poor, drivers, pedestrians, civic bodies all break the rules.
Here are the problems:
Lane markings not present Lane widths not uniform Lane width not adequate When lanes are blocked due to construction there is no advance information Manhole cover projecting above the road surface Dividers not wide enough to permit U turn from the middle lane Places of worships in the middle of the road Sidewalks missing or with dangerous holes Transformers blocking the sidewalk Cables hanging dangerously low Two-way traffic in the service lanes of highways. Stones dislodged from dividers block the roads Bus stops located close to intersections No room to let emergency vehicles pass Shops do not have parking lots
Signals not consistent (A red with a green straight arrow.)
Vehicles waiting at signals block the cross roads Vehicles crossing the intersection on red People driving on side walks People driving on the opposite side Drivers jumping over dividers to the opposite side Pedestrians crossing when cross traffic is green Drivers not waiting for pedestrians crossing Vehicles turning from wrong lanes blocking traffic Drivers tailgating emergency vehicles
A lot can be done to correct the problems. However nothing is done. I am sure Bangalore Traffic Police have their own issues and I am sympathetic to them.
Bangalore Traffic Police are seen only during important days such a Pravasi Diwas etc. Other wise they seem to help only VVIPs.
