First and foremost it is the duty of citizens to segregate the waste at source which many dont do.This is the most effective measure bangaloreans can take with least effort. Unless we are responsible for our waste and do due diligence from our part we cant blame others. BBMP or their contractors dump the garbage at any empty space or road to segregate and they leave half the garbage there. We have similar issue near horamavu lake. When approached BBMP, they say give us the space to segregate. BBMP has thoroughly failed in their duty. Recently they damaged sompura lake near banashankari 6th stage with their scientific waste processing unit.
The less we talk about garbage collection and management issue in Bangalore, the better. No other Indian city has been facing such ridiculous problem. Except a few main roads in CBD, sweeping of the streets and regular collection of garbage cannot be seen in most parts of Bangalore. Even when residents so carefully segregate the garbage at source, the guys in garbage trucks dump all kinds of garbage in the same truck and then they dump that mixed garbage for so-called segregation at street corners again!!!! One can see almost the entire road taken away by these trucks & tempos at these segregation points on every second street and eventually they leave heaps of garbage rotting on the streets & pavements. So, who is to be blamed here? The citizens or the Garbage contractors or BBMP? Why make the citizens pay garbage cess etc when not even basic garbage clearance methods are being implemented? The officials should venture out of the CBD areas and see the plight in other parts of the city.
I have 2 views: (1) Garbage on the roads is a result of poor civic sense of the locality's residents, who prefer to dump garbage on roads instead of handing it over - duly segregated - to the BBMP crew who come to collect from the local colony. (2) Garbage collection by the BBMP crew is 4 days in a week, mix-up the segregated garbage and this crew either dumps the entire garbage in a location on the roadside thus inviting cows and dogs to feast on the left-overs or in case of dry garbage, which has no commercial value to the crew, this same gets burnt by the roadside.
Garbage collection on 3rd Cross Street, Kasavanahalli (St.Norbert Church Street) is horrible. The garbage collection is done only once in a week for all the apartments and is very erratic. Also the roads and street not cleared of garbage and thrash. They even charge each apartment hefty money every month for garbage clearance.
I have complained about a fused tube iight on 2nd cross, Dinnur Main road, R.T.Nagar, on the 19th July and my complaint no. is 419, Even though a month is about elapse, no action has been taken by the BBMP till date. My repeated requests only get me a reply "put your phone down"
