In Dec.2015, BBMP did not pick up our garbage (Shalimar Apts with 42 apts.) for 12 days. We contained it in segregated separate drums with not a pin being discarded outside. It was a challenge. On prompting of a BBMP Health staff we hired the services of a BBMP approved contractor w.e.f. Jan.1,2016. he has been giving good service. Earlier this year he had to change the name of his Company to that of BBMP due to some adjustments between him and BBMP. The crew employed are mostly from North East. They are below 21 years and carry no ID or address proof, with no safety gear provided. We have been able to make 99% segregation within our premises, with three drums each (150L each with lids and wheels) for wet and dry waste and one for medical waste. We use bio-degradable bags. A lot of dry waste is being handed over to waste pickers who are able to earn a small sum by selling it in the market.
