Crisis management is resorted to by the local authorities with the directions of the elected representative. If the representative is not from the ruling the situation is different. I think, with the expansion of greater Chennai, adequate planning as to the width of road, pedestrian foot paths, parking place, have not been given priority. The only satisfactory performance is development of parks and children play ground. I is not clear, why the lakes and ponds are not de-silted and encroachments removed before the onset of monsoon. Proving Storm water drains is still in progress and whether it will serve the purpose or worsen the situation.
