"Like many unfortunate areas in Chennai, Teachers Colony in Kolathur*Lakshmipuram, also has very bad experience ever since this area was included within the Greater Chennai Corporation and all Taxes, both Property Taxes and Metro Water and Drainage Taxes , are revised upward for over half decade. Before inclusion within the Corporation atleast the Local Bodies had given water through Street Taps and the people regularly getting water. But after inclusion within Corporation, the water pipes and drainage pipes were laid in the areas of Lakshmipuram Teachers colony, etc area but due to political ego the present Govt do not want to provide water to the people of this area and hence stoped the construction of overhead tanks in the area. The supply through through water tankers to the households (including flats) is also erratic and only private tankers rune with the blessings of political people are charging at very high cost. Thus an apartment even with 4 flats has to call the tankers more than 6 times in a month and one can imagine the heavy financial burden to the residents. This is over and above the Water Tax paid regularly to Board. Apart from this the Apartment has to clear the sewage in Septic tank at least once in 10 days and this cost is also very heavy and this expenditure is over and above the Sewage tax paid to the Board. The present Govt as well as the MLA incharge of the Assembly constituency are not worried about the sufferings of the people there. The H.C. also not interfered on this 1) that the people within the city are suffering and discrimination is shown, and 2) that the Metrowater and sewage Board is collecting for over 6 years the water and sewage taxes when it is not supplying water and not given sewage connection. In these predicaments it is not known whether the people of KOLATHUR will vote for any of the parties and may may avoid going poling stations.
