IS THERE ANY LAW AND ORDER IN CHENNAI..??.. It is a jungle raj..!!.. the police seem to be standing like a 'lamp post" in all VIP routes but have very little time to attend common man's vows. No wonder, people have started taking law into their own hands and those, who can afford it - have their own private army. Chennai was not so bad till recently and for seniors like us - we can see the rot clearly over the last 10 to 15 years. In fact, I know of many people who would visit the local police as a "LAST OPTION ONLY"...!!!..

There are two wings in Chennai police. Traffic & Law n Order. Both police are untrained and NOT RECRUITED ON MERIT. Hence, UNPROFESSIONAL and look to recover their "investment " for appointment. They are overworked, underpaid and are MOST CORRUPT. Traffic police can CREATE a Traffic Jam out of a smooth Traffic flow and the other Police CAN BOTCH UP ANY CRIME INVESTIGATION.HENCE VERY FEW JAILTERMS FOR CRIMINALS FROM COURTS AND CASES DRAG ON AND ON. THEY ARE THE BEST IN COLLECTING BRIBES AND BUTTRESSING THEIR BOSSES. WISH CHENNAITES AND TAMILNADU HAD A MORE PROFESSIONAL POLICE SET UP WHO WILL BE KNOWN AS A "GUARDIAN OF PUBLIC INTEREST" AND WHO WILL BE EFFICIENT AND HONEST.

As an NGO working with Traffic Police I have always received excellent cooperation. L&O too, as president of my local residents association, they are extremely interactive.mit is important that we know our local cops. Not just Inspector but also all the SIs. Whenever a new ACP oor DyCommissioner takes over I pay a courtesy call, meet them and obtain their mobile numbers. An occasional interaction and a praise when good work is done ( don't we all go only when we have problem?) also builds a robust relationship and much is achieved through dialogue than by exercising our rights complaining and criticising. Remember the police is not free from political control though SC has ordered

Law and disorder is at its very best in TN as a whole.
Cops always turn a blind eye to the followings:
a) Red light jumping by Government buses, VIPs and Politicians
b) Auto drivers fleecing passengers with unfair charges
c) Wrong side driving by almost all types of vehicles
d) Driving with headlights on high-beam within cities
e) Cracker bursting in the middle of the road whenever a dead body is carried for cremation or a politician attends a meeting
f) Vehicle parking in a No-Parking area by a VIP or a politician
g) Crime committed by VIPs/Politicians
However for the following things their eyes are wide open:
a) Demanding bribe
b) Eating free in restaurants
Well , one can write a big book on Cops inefficiency. I still don't understand why Police underestimate their own power by virtue of their position and uniform. Even with 10% of honesty, they can straighten any politician any time. They are real people to save the poor and common man. But unfortunately they enjoy being subservient to crooked politicians. I wish Cops understand their majestic position and bring a change to the state for good.
