If anyone wants to know the management of chennai traffic Police which is pathetic, they can visit Vadapalani junction to Porur junction. You can see all - -Pedestrian signal (no signal for many years), No pedestrian path (fully encroached--new encorachments are also coming), parking of cars of hotels/lodges in pedestrian paths, autos / two wheelers ride opposite way from Vadapalani bus stand to Vadapalani signal sometimes on pedestrian path, hapazard vehicle movement for three entities Vijaya Hospital, Hotel Green Park, Forum mall.... This area is good example of all traffic violation with least provision for pedestrians, senior citizens, children, patients etc

Chennai traffic police do not contribute in discipling the traffic but indulge in punishing very minor mistakes. Indiscriminate parking is not controlled leading to a major part of road being blocked. Of course, Chennai is better than most cities in India, but with much discipline, we can be an example to the whole country.

Dear Mr Selvan: I dont see this situation improve by any degree in the near future. Chennai Police make their presence in their patrol cars etc etc...but it has no effect on the erring drivers. Have you seen the traffic condition in Eldams Road, Royapetta High Road( between Luz corner and Sanskrit College junction..??... It is supposed to be " ONE WAY " but what is happening..!!!.. Two wheeler drivers, Auto rickshaws, Cars, even Mini Vans violate the " ONE WAY " sign with impunity. On top of this, if you are a pedestrian or driving a personal Car even scratch one of the offending vehicle - YOU ARE HELD GUILTY( for rash driving..!!..).
Traffic Police or even beat police will never take your side. Have you noticed the condition of the P.S. Sivaswamy Salai at any given time during the Day..??.. About 60 to 70% of the Road is PERMANENTLY ENCROACHED by PERMANENTLY PARKED CARS, VANS, TAXIS etc etc which leaves YOU VERY LITTLE SPACE TO WALK OR DRIVE YOUR PRIVATE CAR..!!.. THE POLICE ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND IT IS SUSPECTED THAT MANY OF THE PERMANENTLY PARKED CARS, VANS, AND TAXIS ARE FUNDED by the POLICE THEMSELVES AND HENCE ARE " ABOVE LAW"...!!!....

Wrong side driving is on raise and police is not taking any action except for witnessing the wrong driving. Even if they catch the wrong doers they use it in their favour to extort money. Over speeding especially two wheelers, Auto drivers and Taxis are very common and they make lot of minor to medium accidents without the knowledge of police as the minor and medium accidents are not reported by the affected people. Violation of traffic rules are also on raise and the share taxis park their vehicles on the bus stop itself which leads to lot of inconvenience to commuters while boarding and alighting from the buses. Bus drivers block the roads while halting at the bus stops or any other places without applying their mind. During the night all drivers use high beams instead of low beam which causes lot of inconvenience to other road users especially for the vehicles coming in the opposite direction. Also, the halting vehicle use high beams during nights. Driving in wrong direction with lights on during the day time is understood to be right by the drivers and the offenders. Can definitely improve. But as per my observation in many cities it good here. However if you can eliminate taking of cash at many junctions by the personnel, Chennai can never be matched by most of other Indian cities
