Subject : COMMERCIALIZATION OF THE NOBLE PROFESSION CALLED ‘’MEDICINE’’
1. Addressing MODI for his medical tourism approach. He is visiting tons of countries since his election as the PM of India, however only to realize that our own country lags sufficient hospitals.
2. It is to make you aware about the mental agony and commercial hardship we have gone through in the last 20 days, due to unprofessional and purely commercial approach of medical fraternity of FORTIS GROUP OF HOSPITALS. Though India is known as a major hub of medical tourism and people from all across the globe chose India as second to none for their medical facilities, but what about our own citizens those who have first right on all these benefits due to easy money flowing from foreign patients, who are brought with lucrative offers to India for their treatment charging hefty sum of amount and giving false hopes.
3. The reasons for this distress is my stay with FORTIS HOSPITAL Sector 62, Noida, where I stayed for last 20 days as an attendant to my mother in law.
4. She was under treatment of Pulmonary Department, being headed by Dr. Mrinal Sircar. Being a non-medico myself, I do not challenge the capability or credibility of Dr. Sircar or of his team, however, I am looking forward to an answer which still remains unanswered ever after 4 days post losing my mother.
5. Why ICU for an OPD patient? Why time and again attendants are asked to sign documents even for administrating medicine or life support function. If it is doctor’s decision then all such decisions should be taken by qualified professionals rather than a layman myself.
6. There is gross mismatch between the published rate of ICU vs. Amount Charged. What right a hospital has to ask for patient’s insurance policy sum insured. My relative was called by the Hospital Administration and they asked him about the Insurance cover of my Mother In Law.
7. To someone on ventilator is as common in this hospital as administering any medicine for headache. Out of 20 ICU beds, (as told by the ICU Nurse) there were 15 patients on Ventilator. Doctors were keen on keeping my mother in law on ventilator even though a layman like myself knows that at her age revival from the life support is high uncertain. Words are put in attendant’s mouth and the circumstances are created, (EMOTIONALLY) to agree for life support gadgets and ultimately you have no choice but to agree for the same and sign the documents.
8. Doctors behavior leaving a few is so arrogant and irritating that sometimes you even think of shifting the patients elsewhere. Hospital is so finely managed for commercial reasons if you ask for running bills, it is not provided, for days together.
9. Doctors in ICU and CCU and attending doctors charge Rs. 500 per visit and this doctor covers 20 patients per round which means one visit of doctor is around 25000, and the same for junior doctors is around 22000
10. We have requested the doctors and the staff to explain the health conditions of our mother on daily basis and which is our right but Dr. Sircar turned down our request saying junior doctors and ICU attendends are capable enough to tell us the updates which was never given satisfactorily.
11. MY mother by grace of god regained the heath and came out of ventilator support, however due to incapability of the medical staff in the ICU and constant insistence of putting her on ventilator has taken her life. (There was NO – ‘’One bed One Nurse’’ assistance, they were rude and were seen on their phone constantly, whatsapp and playing games.)
12. To conclude this and my reasons for writing that Fortis Hospital is not a right choice. My only virtue for this letter is to make people aware of such a slaughter house in which, not the animals but the patients are put under the knife. They are exploited financially, emotionally and the mental agony that they have to go through is unexplainable.
13. This hospital has different priority rather than just serving the human cause.
14. This is not my sane out of disgust as I have lost my dear mother, who lost her life in ICU, but if the track records checked with the police is now and then, there is a vandalism and hospital is damaged by the attendants of patients those who have lost their lives and administered with wrong medication.
15. It is my appeal to you to kindly send a team or do an audit with the Hospital with which the above points can be ascertained and the hospital should be given a strict warning to refrain from indulging in such activities which only serves their Financial Purposes and commercialize their business even more.
