In Salt Lake and New Town, garbage collection is erratic, and particularly there is no attempt to separate dry and wet waste. There are open garbage vats in salt lake which are a health and hygiene hazard. Some of the new town garbage is dumped in illegal landfills. Total lack of garbage bins on the roadside for people to throw trash. Worse still, there is no imposition of strict fines on those throwing garbage on the roads and that includes the civic authorities themselves and the police.
In Salt lake area there is no segregation of garbage till date. The house hold garbage collection is regular. Street cleaning is erratic. The fourth avenue between Labony Bus stand up to ATI Bus stand has not been cleaned for months. Co-operation from locals as well as from visitors to the area is abysmal. Every one indulges to throw the garbage on the road, and spit on the road as hey walk. There is no tutoring nor a system of fines.
In Baranagar area, Noapara, the streets are clean because of daily collection by Municipality workers - kudos to them. People living in high-rise buildings are to blame for making the whole place dirty by dumping their household refuge from their rooftops and balconies.
