I give opinion on traffic police in Bidhan (Salt Lake, Kolkata. I find most of the time they are not available at important intersection where the traffic signals remains inoperative and only blinks yellow.
Traffic rule violations are rampant. Buses speeding and closing in on your cars and incessantly honking and no one is reigning them.
Near Karunamayee Bus stand autos can still be seen more than half of the very wide road and cause traffic congestion.
Bikes with three riders without helmets can be seen speeding menacingly all over salt lake, with several snatching incidents within te salt lake area recently.

1. Motorized rickshaws ply without license, valid authorization, and without following traffic rules. Auto rickshaws, motorized rickshaws, and two wheeler do not follow lane discipline and it is hazardous to drive along with them.
2. Vehicle to vehicle distances are not maintained for safe driving.
3. App cabs drive very slowly through the middle of the road looking through their smart GPS enabled phones for any message for a new customer. They slow down and hinder smooth traffic movement.
4. Many drive with their one year glued to the phone.
5. Buses and large vehicles horn incessantly with their very high decibel horns. It hurts ears. They also drive dangerously warning that if you don't give way, your vehicle may be damaged. Dangerous and intimidating driving practices.
6. No Penalties and punishment for any of the above offenses. In fact, most Kolkata drivers think that the above are not really offences.

Absolutely ineffective. They are not at all effective in managing traffic, allow vehicles to be parked on the road side unauthorisedly. The auto rickshaw menace remain a big concern for Kolkata traffic which the police cannot manage.

Worst possible chaotic situation since the police is totally ineffective in managing traffic. The staff on duty are busy in accepting bribes openly to allow illegal movements. Spot fine system must be introduced with a reasonable % earning for the staff, as an induced incentive. Political influence on police has made them act like a doll with no accountability on tasks performed. They are least cooperative on road and have no courtesy in solving problems at the hour of need, especially for elderly persons or sick individuals on the road.

Totally disappointing.They are doing duties for extra interest mostly other than public service except few sincere officer.Hat's off those sincere officer.
