The major reason for pollution of public places in Kozhikode corporation area are (1) Street vendors throwing garbage into drainage pipes that block the flow of drainage (2) The sellers of chicken mutton fish etc throwing the waste in plastic bags in open spaces and 93) the flat dwellers throwing food waste on roads simply by pushing the glass down from their AC car and throwing it in open spaces. Open drains are used by the shops selling soft drinks and vendors of fruit juices in the city. Tender coconut sellers are also dumping the waste in open areas. Residential colonies are worst affected, those stay near vacant plots.
Remedies : (1) Strict penalty for this type of misdeeds (2) Vacant plot owners to keep their plots clean or give it on lease to horticultural/ agricultural dept for vegetable farming (3) Public vigil on miscreants (4) Effective collection of plastic waste at selected locations in residential colonies.
