People, by and large, are law abiding and good and that is why law and order in Maharashta is fair. The police performance continues to be poor and shabby. The leadership is poor. Senior officer's involvement, a good majority of them lack experience in basic skills of policing, in day to day working of police has proved to be detrimental. There is a communication gap. A DCP who as an air conditioned office and car and scores of officers at beck and call, has the audacity of comparing his working hours with the lowly policeman. The treatment meted out to him by the senior officers is most disgraceful and feudal like. There is a need to improve this behavior which will enhance self respect and motivation amongst the constabulary and their response to people in need would improve automatically.
