There is tremendous scope for improvement. Pune Police are not acting as a deterrent for the citizens, instead they allow the citizens to commit a mistake or break a rule and then penalize. Whilst that too needs to be done. it is also important that the Police become more proactive in deterring citizens from breaking rules. At the same time the Government must increase the work force given the number of vehicles on the roads, the population of the city and the ever expanding network of roads.

There has been considerable improvement since the last 10 years . however with the increasing traffic its mandatory for the traffic cops to penalise the people who deliberately jump traffic lights -this i see every day at Gera junction chowk ,Wanowrie . This endangers the lives of so many people. A flying squad which can visit busy chowks randomely on different days , and fine the culprits would be best for now.

I feel that there is lot of improvement in traffic police dept. They have worked out many solutions for smooth traffic on crowded area. It has shown the results. Multiple traffic police, assisted by wardens at one spot has reduced considerably. But traffic load is so high at certain places, police should not be blamed for that. Also citizens breaking traffic rules is big headache and needs traffic rules education in all schools. At least next generation will be sensible. Traffic police must have started issuing notices to the vehicle owners who breaks the traffic rules, which are captured in CCTV systems. This should improve the traffic conditions. Based on the data captured in CCTV system, police should deploy the staff to the area where traffic jam is. With the historical data of say 1 year in CCTV, police can plan the deployment of present limited staff in effective manner. Traffic police should start analysis of the data in CCTV for effective planning. With the help of CCTV, now superiors can keep a watch on the effectiveness or efficiency of the traffic police deployed. This will also help in controlling the corruption by traffic police.
In summary traffic police are doing good job but their is lot of scope for improvement. And I am sure this will happen in coming days.

In my opinion, traffic police behaviour has seen a massive improvement in the last one and a half year.
I would like to cite an incident, which used to happen with me every now and then. It used to happen particularly at rakshak chowk aundh and at the Y junction (split between Vishalnagar and Pimple Saudagar roads).
The road coming from Aundh would allow me to come at a speed of about 60 kmph, which was a normal speed. Both the signals were very long to cross, and hence the timings of the clock needed to be enough for one to cross (till the signal turns RED), if one was in a speed and was trying to cross when the signal turned yellow.
Many times, the traffic police would immediately come to the middle of the road, showing that the signal was Red (which indeed turned RED in a matter of about 5 secs from being yellow), which wasn't fair, as I couldn't slow down/stop and yellow light is meant for people behind one's own vehicle, as I would get hit from behind if I stopped immediately seeing yellow.
The traffic police even though knowing this fact, used to take an undue advantage of the same and punish us by writing a challan.
Many times I used to feel as if they are controlling the signal switch by pressing buttons at will, so that they can complete their daily quota.
However, incidents like these have minimized to a large extent. I have seen police giving a waiver to the people for human errors (like not spotting RED light due to a heavy truck in front, etc.), which is commendable.
I have also seen police doing relentless and selfless service by managing the traffic in heavy conditions. Agreed there are huge traffic jams, which need addressing both by the government and citizens (by following rules, not blocking roads near signals, etc.).
People must also learn to be appreciate the good work most of the policemen do, and not criticize them if stray incidents happening because of "Rogue" individuals. Citizens must learn to have self control and accept mistakes if they happen by themselves, and not play the blame game always.
The dept also must have a strong cell which would accept complaints from citizens on someone's non-performance and take corrective actions.
We can only progress if we co-operate. Jai Hind!!!
