Indian Rail is very fast in loading its passengers with extra indirect financial burden but it is too slow in providing any amenities of convenience to its passengers. One can imagine its sincerity when installation of a lift takes 2/3 years. In Raipur station, a lift is under installation for last 3 years and the installation is still going on.
Further, there is no use of providing one lift or escalator to a station having more than one platform and it does not provide any kind of convenience to the needy passengers in any way. Railway should first provide lift/escalator to each of the platforms of the most important and premium stations.
However, improvement in different ares of its functioning is noticeable since taking over the reign of the country by the new government.
I travelled in gomti express train and boarded in D - 2 coach form Tundla on 1/12/15. Train was one hr late but reached Lucknow at 2.15 AM on 2/12/15 instead of 9.30 PM on 1/12/15. All the doors of toilets were broken and there was of dirt and dust in the coach. Railway is charges super fast charges for the train but speed is worse than passenger train. Thus general public is being cheated by in efficient and corrupt practices of railway department as well as political masters who have increased the reservation, cancellation and IRCTC charges many folds but doing nothing to run the trains timely and their proper cleaning and maintenance. Thus passengers are suffered very very badly.
After Mr.Suresh Prabhu took over the reigns, the state of Indian railway platform has become fantastic. Earlier we used to see/get dirty things(and even dirty smell of toilet(i.e., urine smell)) on the platforms/walkovers. Now, there are cleaners standing alert in these areas and maintaining it pretty clean. I observed this especially in Bangalore and Mantralaya railway stations. Also there are many services like 'destination station alert' and dedicated telephone numbers for different services etc.,
Kudos to Mr. Suresh Prabhu and his team for the great work which was not observed for many years earlier. This is the best example to highlight that 'IF ONE WANTS TO DO THE WORK/SERVICE, HE/SHE CAN DO IT AT ANY COST IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SIZE OF THE ORGANIZATION'.
