Average service levels, no long term planning or technology upgrades such as AMR. Bi-monthly billing is a retrograde step. However, the bill payment website is a step in the correct direction and is good.
Till now requests have been timely addresed. But for changing the meter to digital, all had to shell out to those who came to installation. Though it is the need of the EB to change, customers should not be charged unofficially, but could have made official , as charges and added to the EB bill.
We had a bad experience with TNEB. Suddenly one of our 3 phases in our residential building failed. The EB staff came and identified the fault to lie within our premises so they said we have to replace the cable from the road to the meter that was some 25 metres away. Then a supervisor came with a pocket computer and calculated that the expense would be around 15000 that would be charged by EB. As EB was not buying the cable, I asked him why? He says this will be considered as a new connection!
He then offered to do it at a bribe of about 8k! He also said that the entire internal cabling etc. can be done by the stafff at an additional cost of 12,000 Rs. for which we have to get a formal permission from the AE. i said we have our own good electrician and will get the entire work including cabling and cable done by him. We got this done.
Then EB had to give a connection from the road side to this new cable laid by ys as a replacement of the old one. He chareged an exhorbitant money just for connecting. One EB electrician worked for leas than 2 hours for which we had to pay 6000 Rs.!
But the more shocking thing is this: When our electricans dug open our ground to find where the cable has given way, giving rise to short-circuit, we found the internal cable was laid by us years ago was intact. It was the cable on the road side that had broken and we came to know about it when the EB electrician came to give the other connection, as he pulled out the old cable from below the platform on the road. He said the Corporation people may have damaged it when they laid the platform. So the entire basis on which we were asked to spend about 15k was ether because of the fault of the corporation or the EB but the poor citizen of this country ends up paying.
If I were the head of such an oiganization, I would hand my head in shame as a professional.
