Even now, Thalassery railway station platform doesn't have rain proper rain shelters and passengers has to wait with luggage for long time in the rain. Even for long distance passengers, its a big problem.

Palakad junction platforms are okay. But the problem is getting to the station through the narrow and congested approach roads. One entrance on the eastern side is in a dilapidated condition. If this is thrown open and used as an exit only gate, the station premises could be decongested during peak hours.The sparingly used area near this gate is an ideal hangout for anti-social elements and also a place to urinate.

The facilities and amenities at Thalassery railway station are not suitable for an A class railway station. Railway has ample land available at this site which is not properly utilized or maintained either for passenger amenities or for commercial purpose. The parking facilities are not enough and are not properly maintained. The ticket counters are maintained only at platform no.1 and not at no.2 although building facilities for the same are available at platform no.2 also. Seating facilities are not properly maintained and are not enough at both platforms. There is enough scope for commercial development of the large vacant land available with railways since the station is situated near the bus stand and is at the heart of the city. The cleanliness has increased after the implementation of Swatch Bharat campaign
