I am writing about Guwahati mass Transport system. I am writing it in Assam Govt. dept. as ASTC is an Assam Govt. organisation and ASTC runs city buses in Guwahati. One of the worst mass transport system among the Indian cities, people can hardly get any comfort in those buses. Moreover city buses are running only on few routes. So people has to use their own car or riksaw. This again makes the already congested roads more and more into unmoved parking place. Though we hard that Govt. is planning to introduce metro system, it seems it will take long long time even if it will materialize. The traffic management system is also horrible. the traffic lights are not operating in most of the important crossing. Roads are narrow. And two third of the roads are occupied by parking vehicles. In many places on the important roads hardly one vehicle can pass through. The traffic department is of the opinion that increasing police force will make the system better without improving the system itself. As a result in some crossings we see huge number of traffic police but they can not control the traffic. In fact the traffic chaos is higher when there are more traffic police men on the crossing.
The top officers should be trained in other cities for better management.
