There is no footpath in the entire city that is clear of encroachments, either by shops or street vendors. In many cases, they have occupied both the footpath and a significant section of the road. This has made it very unsafe for pedestrians. It also limits the room for vehicles. Repeated attempts to highlight this point have been ignored by the GVMC.
