First I would like to appreciate the work done by the scavengers and their superiors for the excellent work done by them, even we as members of the society need to improve a lot on our side.
Having said that unless we implement WET and DRY WASTE MANAGEMENT and its use / disposal at city level it is not going to give much results. We need to do a lot in that direction. We at unit level are segregating wet and dry waste in Kirlampudi Layout but GVMC is still to implement the same at city level and all the efforts we take are going down the drain. If this continues we may go back and mix both wet and dry waste.

The style of waste management adopted is most crude and unprofessional. Small bins are provided which are generally overflowing with waste and are never cleaned/ emptied in time in a regular fashion. This is a common sight in Visakhapatnam. Unless the GVMC goes for scientific management of waste as done in UK etc. they are not going to be successful. I feel that the IAS officers in GVMC lack the imagination and scientific approach to waste management. A separate department with civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics engineers must be created exclusively for the entire gamut of the waste management/waste recycling/waste -to-energy generation. This must be done on top priority.We are wasting so much of useful waste.I always say "Waste is a resource in the wrong place!"

we are trying at MVP Sector XI Ward 7 GVMC with the help of IYFS (India youth for Society) Volunteers on every Wednesday and Sunday approaching and collecting wet waste from our colony residents to implement cleaning households without keeping houses with unnecessary materials. trail basis we are doing at 20 houses and few apartments nearby our park. If response is good we will approach all our residents about 450 households.

Garbage collection and recycling is the partial responsibility of residents and Municipal Corporation. At the time of collection of HOUSE TAX, provision for collection of additional tax may be included along with HOUSE TAX for GARBAGE COLLECTION. Separate collection of SOLID and LIQUID GARBAGE may at first be provided with each individual residents and separate DUST BINS be provided by Municipal Coprn. at each point of garbage collection. Garbage disposal is a big task. One of the local company came forward to use the garbage for power generation. The company taken back its idea because of the restriction put by the municipality. Certain things like this garbage should be disposed off even for some sort of loss to municipality. Always you cannot bargain for profitability, compromise and get rid of this dirty garbage.
