Nowadays many travel in airlines, and the private airlines are being allowed to charge for window and aisle seats at the time of advance booking. This purportedly was to make them get some revenue. However this has taken a different level now-a-days with one of the carriers spicejet even charging Rs.99 for centre seats (i.e. seats between window and aisle). In fact all seats in spicejet are charged. When a ticket is booked, does that not mean a seat is guaranteed. So if there is no seat booked, does that mean one can travel standing??
What are the rules and regulations which permit the air carrier to charge for seats and for how many seats can they charge, and what are the seats for which they cannot charge is not clearly specified.
In fact the silence of DGCA only seems to be encouraging the airlines to make money on the side silently.
This issues needs to be looked into

Seat selection is completely an optional process and you can very well not select it and go to the airline counter to get a seat allocated. Most airlines allow free seat selection 24 hrs before the flight departure in online check-in which will allow selecting any seats which have not been purchased.
Under no circumstances will you travel standing. Rest assured!! more
