A whole lot of changes have been brought about in last couple of years financial market. UADAI has created an unique identity register for the masses who are enrolled in it. It is helping direct transfer of various Govt benefits based on this input. it has been linked to PAN for clear identification and tracking of financial transactions. It is being used as an identity for creation of different transactions like opening of bank account, dealings in land parcels, other high value transactions to name a few. In spite of such advances based on electronics and technology, a large number of our policies and approaches have remained where those were. For example, if an Insurance co or a Mutual fund house needs to transfer your money to you, they still ask you to furnish a cancelled cheque leaf to verify your account details. Why? And what for? When the Govt is able to make money transfer based on electronic information available what holds these and similar agencies to use those avenues. I can understand wherever such data is not available then you ask for details for identity verification. But why as a matter of routine. There are a number of social benefits which are available based on the age of the client. This all should automatically flow in rather than seeking of a copy of birth certificate or age proof. Why? Are we not competent enough to use the available data?
