If only trains could fly !
Today Indian Railways is as expensive or more expensive than flying by air. I can fly from Bengaluru to Kochi (700kms) in one hour at least than Rs. 1,000/-. Airports are well supported by ground transportation that is affordable in both these cities. Air transportation is the safest today. The time saved is enormous too since I can go back and forth the same day and get work done instead of wasting money on hotels.
Railway transportation is unsafe, unreliable, expensive, time consuming, unhygienic etc..
My humble suggestion :
Why can't Railways commence it's own airline division ? Sounds ridiculous? Not really ! Read on:
Railways can start short and medium haul flights between 700 km radius in regional divisions. These are ATR, Bombadier, Avro, SAAB, type aircrafts and larger Helicopters. Railway divisions own land contiguous to stations and from here passengers can opt and upgrade to a short or medium hail flight operated by Railways. So for instance between Bengaluru and Chennai Kochi Hyderabad Railway Aviation Division can operate Air Shuttles for an additional fee .
