Mandatory Registration of Consumer Vs Industrial Grade Products

There are consumer grade products that are used by common people at their homes which need electrical safety i.e. Switches, Geysers, Heaters, Fans, ACs, Lights, Mobile Phones, MCBs, Chargers etc.


At the same time, similar products i.e. ACs, Lights, MCBs, Heaters, Cooling Fans, Mobile Phones are also used in Industrial applications i.e. Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Automotive, etc which are not supplied or used by standard consumers for Household applications.


For industrial products, the Industrial users anyways are checking the safety aspects based on their specifications and technical data-sheets and then only use it in their Machines / Panels / Plants etc. Such products therefore are not used in as huge quantities as that for the household markets. Therefore getting expensive tests under the mandatory registration scheme for consumer safety requirements on these products for Industrial applications is putting a lot of pressure for the Local Manufacturers, Importers and Traders who have to deal with smaller quantities specific to certain industry.

There is a need to find out a separate mechanism to deal with such industrial grade products which are overlapping with consumer grade categories.
