Making Healthcare and Healthcare Education Better: The NMC bill replaces the Medical Council of India which is a doctor run organisation with a government regulatory body National Medical Commission. Is this a good step?
P.S. - The Medical Council of India till date has been responsible for giving clearances to medical colleges in India and its office members have been charged with corruption. While its supposed to regulate doctors it has not been successful in controlling malpractices in the profession or even in hospitals. The new bill replaces it with a new body National Medical Commission which will largely be controlled by the Government. Majority Doctors are opposing it and say it will make medical education and medical profession more bureaucratic, inefficient and corrupt.
