Actions by the Govt to minimize undue tax harassment

Many of you who have been with our circles since 2016 know that LocalCircles has been actively working to sensitize Government to minimise undue tax harassment.

With this post, we would like to update you that now first level scrutiny has been made completely electronic by the Government thereby eliminating any discretion. The notice generation process is now completely being done independent of the assessing officer.

This new system has been in place since August. We would like to seek your very specific inputs in case you have had any scrutiny experience in the last 45 days

We look forward your inputs! more

I have still not received my Tax Refund for FY 2018-19. I do not know how long IT department will take. They keep asking advance tax without fail, but do not care to give the refund, at least during the financial year. more

My wife is submitting her Income Tax Returns for a no. of years, refunds whenever were receivable, were being credited in her bank A/c. However during FY 2017-18 AY 2018-19, the Income Tax Authority suddenly developed a procedure, where the assessee's name is not the 1st A/c Holder of the Bank A/c, a photocopy of the Cheque need be furnished. PRINTING OF A/c HOLDERS NAME ON THE CHEQUES OF PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS DEPEND ON THEIR WHIMS AND FANCY AND CALLS FOR HARD ACTIONS TO BRING THEM TO THEIR SENSES. A Photocopy of the Title Page of the Passbook was submitted - quite a few months back. INCome Tax Refund is yet to be received. Incidentally, it is also noted that her assessment for FY 2018-19 AY 2019-20 has since been completed by the Income Tax authorities and formal intimation received. more
