Two key problems: 1) Publicity and transparent information about tourist facilities at various locations. Each state may have its own tourist site. Yes, it can be google, but there is a common site for Indian Tourism, which can provide links to state level organizations, it would be very useful. I believe the information available online is abundant, but not collated. Also permit online bookings through online payments. This can help a lot as people traveling can have confirmed bookings at the destination before starting the journey. And avoid issues of "non-availability", which only seems to be in books while the rooms may actually be empty and will be given to those who are "connected". 2) Differential treatment. I have stayed at tourism department owned facilities in the telugu states. The indifferent when it comes to private guests is noticeable. Any requests for service are mostly ignored. However, if one comes through "political" or "administrative" connections, people will run around to make things happen in a hurry. Political power of position seems to matter a lot. Even the vehicle drivers who park in such facilities behave accordingly. This needs to change. Wondering if handing over the hospitality management to private players would be helpful. The institute i studied in, has built a wonderful guest house for visitors, on campus, but handed over the management to a private company. This has done wonders and is highly appreciated by those who avail the facilities. more
I do not know about corruption in Tourism Industry but with my little experience I can say that while awarding contracts for infrastructure etc. corruption takes place. I stayed at few hotels maintained by State Governments in North India which are cheap, neat when compared with 3star hotels, etc. But the only problem is they won’t advertise their facilities properly and only very few people about them. more
Tourism department is not very cognitive in the behaviour of their staff. Many behave like standard govt servant in a office. They must be taught like servility, cordiality ,accomodativeattitude, flexibility, efficiency and must be free from corruption. In west is a pleasure to stay intourist places. Nepotism, casual response,no responsibility towards tourists needs and maintainance of govt property. Reservation system is faulty, most of sites not working, accommodation defects plumbing, electrical , leakages not attended.Lack Of enough water and cleanliness not attended to. Security ,roads, infrastructure, guidance is absent. Tourism must be run like hospitality services not like a govt depart ment . Special favours for special people must go, first come first served must be followed. more
why not create a UNCORRUPT system. The govt requires Tax , this could be collected by way of transaction tax. All currency notes above Rs.20/- to go out, all transactions only by way of plastic cards , internet banking , or any other form of digital system only, hundreds are available today. For every transaction , a tax will be debited automatically by the system at the time of the transaction itself ( like TDS).The govt gets its revenue. The govt does not spend on monitoring business and tax collection expenses , AND out goes all misinterpretation of rules/laws , discretion of the person on the spot, complicated rules/laws , no intrusion , no chance of corruption, millions of court cases will not appear, only benefits for every one. The recording and submission of accounts/income for individuals/groups/firms and organisations to be submitted to the Govt , for the purpose of ensuring there are no illegalities with reference to the laws of the land. Everything records/financial statement remains as it is, except there is no hard cash to corrupt. This goes well with the slogan from PM, LESS GOVERNMENT . more
In India, is it necessary to list out corruption ??? Corruption is every where. It is only to take action to eradicate. more
