While India celebrates its Independence Day next week (15th August), I have been getting a strange thought. In fact, it has been in my mind for quite some time… and today I want to share with you and know what you think about it!
.
The issue is about what we call "human rights". It is such an important matter that we have numerous organizations to protect our rights. OK, not only human rights in general, we talk of minority rights, children's rights, women's rights and human rights of even terrorists. With so much hue and cry about rights, I have been wondering if anyone thinks of duties also. At least, it is not equally visible. This "rights" euphoria, in fact, has entered so much our lives that everywhere - in offices, in schools and colleges, at home or on the road - yes, everywhere the emphasis is only on the rights.

Parallel to International Human Rights Commission, why should there not be some institution like International Human Duties Commission? Sounds funny? Well, I thought of taking a chance to see if there is something of that sort on the internet. As I typed "human" in the search box, the first auto suggestion to appear there was "human rights". Further while "human rights" threw up 238,000,000 results, "human duties" brought up less than half of it (115,000,000 to be precise!). Though I was pleasantly surprised to see International Council of Human Duties in the results, it was just a non-governmental and non-profit making organization. On the other hand "human rights" organizations with statutory status are all around, right from the UN to regional to national and state level. Yes, human rights are important, no doubt, but should there not be some correlation between rights and duties, this is what I wonder!

May be, this issue should be left for the experts to handle, I thought it was my duty (and right!) to raise the topic with you, dear Friend. What do you say? more

*** We all are friends. Views may, and do, differ. No offense meant to anyone *** Going back to the topic of my article: 1. It is our DUTY to share views and comments confined to the specific topic. 2. It is our RIGHT to stray away from the topic and bring in our political leanings in an otherwise neutral topic. ... and of course, as I had written in my article, it is always RIGHTS that get priority over DUTIES. Amen! more
ASHOK JE- I AM NOT INTERESTED IN POLITICS TOO BUT CAN ANY ONE CLARIFY THAT KEJRIWAL CAN ONLY WORK IF HE HAS POWER TO PERFORM HIS DUTIES? ALL POWERS FOR HIS STATE ARE EITHER WITH HIS BOSS LJ (WORKING FOR CENTRE) POLICE , LAND ETC. ARE UNDER THE CUSTODY OF CENTRE WHO COULD NOT DIGEST HIS VICTORY AS BJP GOT IN LOK SABHA. PERHAPS WE DO NOT LIKE EQUALITY IN OUR LIVES. more
Well, in Parliamentary Democracy, you have to give legitimate time and allow these First Time elected representatives to settle-down/understand the working and discharge their DUTIES through millions of specialist staff hired and paid to perform in PWD/MCD/DP/EDN/DDA/JAL BOARD etc.,sure they will do better than Other Corrupt Political Parties, who created VOTE BANKS in the form of Illegal Colonies all over Delhi, during their tenure! more
Hi Ashok......In a country like India a few powerful people trample upon the rights of all Indians. Therfore we have to keep fighting to regain them. Where is the revolutionary leader who will rise to crush these evil forces? more
