Sorry, my view may not be acceptable for all: Why are citizens, including educated-earning a higher income, fall for FREE offers? Govt has to do a lot, no doubt. But we know that we have built on our own -- a very lethargic governmental system for decades! Overnight it will not change. We the people must fight, by boycotting all free offers, discounted price etc: As long as we expect discounts, this kind of cheap cheating will remain: Illiterate and average educated may need a little more time to understand all this: But why can't "the others" understand that NOTHING COMES FREE IN THIS WORLD, especially in marketing based activities. Look for quality and choose to buy: Avoid even reading about OFFERS! more

Mukulji , M.R.P. is maximum reatail price inclusive of all taxes . Say the basic price is Rs. 1,000 , G.S.T . 5% as you mentioned , the GST is Rs. 50 , with the GST , MRP is 1,050 . If the trader gives a discount of 20 % , the discount is on the basic price of Rs. 1,000 , that is Rs. 200 / . So the MRP should be 1,000-200 + GST 50 = Rs. 850 . If he is charging anything more than Rs. 1,050 it is illegal . If he is charging more than Rs. 850 / he is cheating you not the Government . It is not the concern of the Government . more

The MRP includes the GST also. However when he discounts the sale the seller cannot give a discount for the GST as it has to be paid to the Government. Only the discount will be applicable to MRP minus GST. more
