The IRCTC online reservation system has a very peculiar system of upgrading the reservation status when the final chart is prepared. If I am waitlisted in one train, I may get a confirmed accommodation in another train for my destination (e.g., Howrah to Nagpur). However, the accommodation in the first train is preferred to the passenger. Till the last day the I do not know what has happened to my waitlisted ticket. But if I do not cancel the ticket at the last moment I have two tickets confirmed, and I have to return one at a heavy penalty. Why the reservation status is not updated regularly? In that case looking at the trend I can decide to cancel any one of the tickets 48 hours prior to the scheduled journey or I may try 'Tatkal scheme'. I think it needs immediate attention of the concerned authority. more

Even in 2AC reservation compartments, in long distance trains, people with RAC and wait listed passengers are allowed to travel which causes lot of inconvenience and insecurity for the passengers with confirmed ticket. This is done by the TTEs for in between stations, by taking money. more
suspend DRM who proved himself incompetent. We have been discussing to post only on the existing system to do this and that, but the very fact present system needs overall change entrusting the job to our excellent software engineers who will come up with various innovations. say goodbye to the present system once and for all . However may i suggest reservation should reach even to the nearby remote villages like mobile telephones so as to considerably reduce heavy rush on the platforms and other common utility areas of the station more
this will increase the chances of getting a confirmed seat and help railways to increase the sales more
The reservation system should implement an algorithm which identifies different connections that have the availability or least waiting list to reach their destination when the option is selected by the user. more
sometimes the Tatkal WL will not get confirm and ordinary WL tickets will get confirmed. Why IRCTC will give top priority for tatkal booking? more
