1993 STATUTORY BAN YET TO BE IMPLEMENTED :

We have been getting aware of the pathetic conditions of some unfortunate Indians as seen in the attached picture. More and more such detestable barbaric operations appear these days in the media. It has started to surface now with humanitarian consideration . Hitherto it was probably considered was their fate to do the job .

In this picture we see the worker in the manhole not working in wet condition ; many occasions there have been picture where these workers get immersed like a submarine and clear the block created by the plastic , sanitary pads and the like. We are the culprits for the clog .

The best of soaps and superior deodorants will never take away the lingering stench from their bodies.

Thanks to the Judiciary and the petitioner of PIL . The Government has been asked to file a status report and the AAG to take action on the responsible.

It is no doubt a occupational hazard of multiple Types for these workers . They go through Chemical, biological hazards (biohazards), psychosocial hazards, and physical hazards.

*People have lost their lives inhaling poisonous fumes ,

*people have died getting drowned ,

*they are exposed to all skin ailments ,

*the incidence of addiction is high among these workers as they are also affected psychologically .

India is not lagging behind technology at all as world respects us for the I.T. Revolution , space technology , Yoga , being a destination for medical tourism.
ALL WE NEED TO DO IS INTRODUCE ROBOTICS INTO THIS FIELD TO REPLACE THE MANUAL SCAVENGING.
Save this section of Indians - Jai Hind more

The solution is very simple- strike at the root of the problem, i.e. WE the people. If WE learn to reduce, reuse, recycle our waste as well as dispose the remaining garbage responsibly WE can solve the problem. Our bad habits and irresponsible behaviour has given rise to all the ills we experience today. We are hypocrites when it comes to our convenience. more
Should one not raise the question of accountability here? If the authorities understand this question, they should act quickly. Smaller countries like Vietnam and Malaysia etc. possess the wherewithals to surmount or solve such problems quickly. Mechanical instruments are available.....buy them, dear authorities, and save human lives. more
It is shameful for the entire nation that even in the 21st century manual scavenging is continued in our country and more than 95% of works in the area is still being done manually only. We always make big claims of humanity, human value, equality, culture and son and so forth but by practice we give least respect towards these Ruling Principles in Life otherwise there were no reasons for not shifting such works to automatism a long back! Let us hope now that good-sense will prevail in our present government which will ensure that all kind of manual scavenging is completely eradicated at the earliest. more
As individuals we should try to work such situations do not arise. we have to take care while throwing into the garbage pipes. the root cause has to be looked into. Yes, it is always better to carry out such jobs mechanical way instead of manually. more
Manual scavenging needs to be totally stopped and replaced with mechanized one. more
