24 USA working days to clear a USD cheque?

I deposited a USD check in my savings acoount in HDFC Bank. The bank told me that it would take 24 US working days fir the check to clear !!. Reason - they have to send it Mumbai and then US. In this age of technology, is this normal?

Apart from this, the service at the bank was pathetic. The response from the bank to my one star rating was " please send us an email at talktous@hdfcbank.com". The email to this address bounces with the message that " you are not authorised to send mails to this address". So much so for the technology at the largest pvt bank in India, when it comes to customer service for the common person. more

Is there really a need to send the cheque physically to verify? In the age of Digital it moves one place to other within a moment. That means the bank holds the currency for sometime on their own interest. It was the easy tactics of HM's episode. more
But customer ID email are different at HDFC. How ever why cheques in this modern age more
Even in India check takes some days depending on the account holder and place where submitted. 2.Banks have to help in making NEFT transition. 3.US money transfer is to SBI account or intermediary transfer companies more
As long as chequebooks are issued they will be used. more
This is the way most of the Banks "resolve" the issues without actually resolving. In many cases when there is a fault at their level they simply send a message saying the complaint is resolved without giving specific details how it was resolved. But within a month one will find the mistake repeating. RBI complaint site is also no better more
