Swachh Bharat Mission

What every citizen should do on Oct 2nd for Swachh Bharat in their area

1. Neighbours should get together and lay out their ‘Neighbourhood Cleanliness Objectives’ for the coming year
2. A cleanliness committee should be formed or revived to make this a sustainable initiative
3. Cleanliness Do’s and Don’ts should be established and posted in multiple locations in Hindi so that residents/staff/vendors/visitors can all understand (including guidelines on cleaning the pet waste, prohibition on littering, posters, spitting etc.)
4. Residents should orient their families, as well as staff and vendors coming in the neighbourhood
5. Cleanliness sign boards to be established to include phone numbers of local health officer, waste pick up agency, Resident Welfare Association/security office, Ward Councillor, SHO, MLA with a call to action from residents
6. Adequate garbage collection bins should be kept in the society and neighbourhood
7. A neighbourhood beautification/plantation drive should be initiated with Residents
8. A brainstorming session must be planned to discuss top civic issues
9. Plan should be made to engage with the Ward Councillor and Urban Local Body followed by quarterly update meetings
10. Collective residents action mechanism should be devised on reporting unauthorized hawkers, garbage and civic issues in the neighbourhood. more

regarding the garbage bins... they smell in our area... also there is one about 200 meters away from residence... every time i walk by that road near the bin, to go to the park, it feels horrible. more
I have written a song in english for school children in primary school... i would like that this song be publicized.. used by children.. perhaps in schools or in communities... can you tell me what i must do? more
A .Education on cleanliness is still needed at many levels B.Banning of plastics is essential by Govt or plastic bags / materials used can be slowly reduced.C. People can be educated on disposal of waste on moving trains, buses and public places.D. We have noticed that people with awareness behave responsibly and sure in the future our country will surge ahead for cleanliness more
I can give point by point comment on the suggestions given above but that will be too long. There is a long list of Dos and Don'ts for the citizens. Where is the list or what corporation and local government officers should do? Are we not tax paying citizens? I am from Viman Nagar, Pune. Corporation's garbage collection vehicles are half the time under breakdown. We have formed an organization called Viman Nagar Residents' Association (VNRA). We are regularly fighting for our rights. Cleanliness of roads, hawkers on footpaths, street lighting, unauthorized drain connections to storm water by builders, no public toilets in entire Viman Nagar, regular and equitable water supply - the list is long. People here are socially responsible. Wet and dry garbage is separated by most societies. But when corporation vehicles do not pickup the garbage stray dogs and cows spread it on roads. You want this to be cleaned by volunteers from societies every day? We are cleaning that too but it can not be the responsibility of law abiding tax paying citizens. The plastic waste is separated and given for recycling to a NGO. What more do you expect. Local corporation is good for nothing. There are hawkers on all roads of Viman Nagar and no action is taken to remove/rehabilitate/relocate or regulate them. The issue has been discussed with the Municipal commissioner but there is no effect. The hawkers block all footpaths by evening till late at night. Cook on the road with gas cylinders and dirty the roads with effluent from washing utensils. There is no space for public to walk on footpaths. You suggest quarterly meeting with the Ward Councillor and Urban Local Body officers but we have these meetings monthly as Mohalla Committee meeting. Attention of all is drawn about every point discussed above since last 7 to 8 months. No results are seen by us till date. VNRA has planted over 500 trees and painted walls of the neighborhood using their volunteers and local company's help just to find hawkers and political parties using such painted walls for sticking bills. And the government is making propaganda that Pune will be made smart city!!! I am a great supporter of our PM shri Narendra Modiji but there is always a limit to one's passions. more
Arbaaz Ali Khan (602 , Sea King, Bandstand , Lion) I agree with Mr. Vikram Ahuja and what he has said about banning the production of gutkha. We usually believe in attacking the stems of the evil Tree and not its roots. That is why most of the laws we make don't have an impact or get easily bypassed. We make a mockery of the system. more
