39 Lakhs - MBBS/BDS Tuition Fee

Don't be surprised. Today (07/07/2017), Mumbai edition of Hindustan Times paper published an article titled "Colleges to charge up to Rs. 39 Lakh for 15% of MBBS and BDS seats".

Copy of the article is attached.

Pravin Shingare, Director at Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), said colleges are within their rights to charge more for institutional quota seats. “For institutional quota, a Supreme Court verdict allows us to charge five times the fees for merit quota,” said Dr SB Mantri, Dean, Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Latur.

In other words, Institutional Quota means Management Quota or taking admission by paying Capitation Fee.

Obviously, now we know why Education has been kept out of GST purview (0% GST). Long Live our Law makers. more

as per my knowledge about the same the FRA or the Fee Regulation Authority has made it clear colleges cannot charge anything more than what has been approved by them or FRA. As far as SCI verdict goes it is very clear and I quote "Colleges should ideally not charge more than 5 times these fees for their NRI and management quota seats" Unable to comprehend how is the "institutional " word being linked or understood in this context more
Institutional quota is another term used for Management Quota. If we look at the attachment, Fees charged for Institutional seats is 5 times the merit quota seats.

Rs. 39 Lakhs equals almost the purchase price of 1.3 Kg. Gold, which attracts 3% GST. Then why Education has been kept out of GST purview? Just because such institutes are run by influential people? more
The logical conclusion is not with the opinion of the SC views. As far as my knowledge goes, there was another verdict to the effect of restricting to charge any of the additional charges except the permitted and the upper limit was not exceeding Rs. 9 lacs even in extreme cases. Nevertheless, as far as GST is concern the Education is exempted. AND In present it is more than GST. If you can find out the latest SC verdicts it will certainly much helpful to clear the doubts. more
