4 Habits You Must Follow For Viral Infections

..
Viral infections are extremely common. Every other person seems to be having one infection or the other. Mostly, viruses are spread when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes. Viruses of dengue and chikungunya are spread by the bite of mosquitoes.

Here are 4 simple and effective ways to prevent spread of viruses and infections:

1 . Wash Your Hands Frequently
Make sure you wash your hands at least 4-5 times in day. Rub soap for at least 20 seconds and cover all areas of your hands. If there is no soap and water, use a hand sanitizer.

2 . Opt For “No Touch” Mantra
-Viruses can linger on hard surfaces for hours or days.
-That is why it is important to avoid touching areas like counters, sinks, doorknobs, light switches in offices and public places like metro stations and malls.
-Wash your hands or use a sanitizer if you can’t avoid touching them.

3 . Swap Handshake With A Namaste
-Avoid shaking hands especially if a person has cough or cold.
-Instead wish him/her with folded hands.

4 . Prevent Mosquito Bites
-Wear full sleeved shirts, trousers, socks and shoes as much as possible so that most areas of your body are covered. Avoid wearing shorts and sleeveless clothes when venturing out.
-Use mosquito repellent creams judiciously on all exposed parts including face and neck before going out. Avoid contact with eyes.

THINGS TO DO IN CASE OF VIRAL INFECTION
-Most viral infections are self-limiting.
-Get plenty of rest.
-Drink plenty of fluids (3-4 liters)to prevent dehydration.
-Take medicine such as Paracetamol 650 mg (maximum of 4 tablets in a day).
– Don’t take any other pain killer or any other medicine.
– Don’t take antibiotics or do unnecessary blood tests.

So, go ahead and practice these simple and effective tips and prevent yourself and your family members from falling sick. Stay Healthy, Stay Happy! more

Early diagnosis in such cases is important and delays may be disastrous. more
While It is wiser to take all prevention to avoid getting yourself infected with a virus, bacillus or fungus, it's unwise to treat yourself with paracetamol or any other drug under the impression that the condition is self limiting and doesn't require any other treatment. Delays in consulting a doctor and getting investigated may put the patients under greater risk of complications and a state of no cure possible. Early diagnosis of dengue, chickengunia or even malaria May be disastrous. more
While I do believe in good hygiene, washing hands and namaste instead of shaking hands, and using hand sanitizers when there is nothing else, I also believe that we have sanitized ourselves into a less healthy lifestyle. We don't allow our children to get dirty, to play in the rain, etc. Having said that, I do believe in preventative vaccines. The WHO [World Health Organization] has just declared measles as eradicated in the Americas. Smallpox has been eradicated across the globe, polio may be next. www.unicef.org list the vaccines and how well they work. A no touch policy may work, except little kids touch everything. They share everything, including illnesses. Vaccines are available for the most serious diseases, not all, but researchers always keep testing, keep looking, keep working on more. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. Therefore vaccines are vital. Taking paracetamol [Tylenol] will take away some of the "mack truck" flu symptoms[you literally feel like you have been run over by a mack truck [18 wheeler]. Continue taking any other medicines you have been taking for other conditions. Drink lots to keep from becoming dehydrated. Don't go to work. Don't go out in public...not because something might happen to you, because you are spreading the disease. You are contagious. While having a strong immune system is the ideal, we have to deal with what we have to work with now. So now means [1] rest, [2] rehydrate [you might need Pedialite or other electrolite drink], [3] use paper tissues [not cloth] for blowing your nose and coughing and then throw away the tissue [4] cough into your bent elbow [the material of your shirt or blouse will absorb the germs and keep them from spraying out into the air. [5] You may experience "general malaise" [literally creepy-crawly feeling on your skin, so wear soft clothes [6] eat healthy [fruits, vegetables, some protein. Mostly use common sense. more
