Most of the culverts and bridges of Railways have lived their life and even running of Rajdhani with present speed may not be safe. The rail tracks need to be checked and replaced periodically.I over think RAIL SAFETY remained poor over the past several decades and in most of the accidents the reports are nothing more than a cover up story due to obvious reasons. These aspects need remedial measures .More over India will top in the world in having the unmanned level crossings which need to be converted into over bridge or under pass as the case may be and all these will need huge fund and time since they are to be done while the tracks are operating. After we make our rail track fully safe , we should plan for speeding the trains. After all there are very competent experts with Indian Railways but they could not do much because they have to work as per the ministries directives. more
