For someone who does not have any symptoms to be considered to have type 2 diabetes, they must:

• Have a fasting blood sugar (no food eaten for 8 hours) greater than or equal to 126 mg/dL
• Have a blood sugar of 200mg/dL after 2 hours during a glucose tolerance test using 75g glucose solution.
• Have a hemoglobin A1c of 6.5% or higher. more

These figures are on higher side but not alarming. Go for walk, reduce calorie intake. Reduce weight by 5 Kgs. Retest after that and take suitable action. more
It might interest members to know that different clinics mention different "permissible figures" in mg/dL of course for "fasting sugar" and " Post Perendial (PP) value. Surprising however is when fasting sugar values as tested by two different clinics range between 74 and 114 mg/dL. And the PP values are read as 91 by one and 172 (mg/dL) by another clinic. This would call for some "thinking", I suppose. more
Bri ji thanks for the message and it is very true. But I find that the language has reversed the meaning. A normal person should have, 1] Fasting blood sugar less than 126 mg/dl 2] Glucose tolerance test or PP sugar level 200 mg/dl 3] HbA1C value should not exceed 6.5% There are specific conditions attached to each one of the tests. Additionally, I would like to state based on my personal observations one should start monitoring these at an early age of 35 years. Fasting blood sugar at one point of time even 160 was considered normal and therefore people should not start getting worried with higher levels. Increase in PP value might vary from 70 to higher values according to individuals and this also is not a cause of worry. HBA1C value is a better guideline. Individuals can control the blood sugar conveniently if they really wish so. Need is Will Power to opt for disciplined life in general. more
There is closeness of blood pressure ,thyroid and blood suger ,high BP may activate blood suger (diabetics tendencie) and thyroid may be high gradually if BP is not controlled well in time .KFT test linked with kidney characteristics may start to overpower u if we are not serious for these three devils (bp,thyroid and blood suger). Important is always prevention but sometime situation as high tension /stress in working/personal life shoot blood pressure drastically ,it is good if someone ease of tension ,maintain regularity for morning walk /yoga (if possible )good eating habits ,avoiding salts/alcohol etc upto pissible extent. Blood sugar if genitic ,solution is prevention and to avoid such food which activate these tendencies. Dieticians would able to guide better for the kind of menu to be selected for prevention. Stopping of alcohol is excellent. A routinious exercise to control insulin is always welcomed, if somebody may go trained exercises and routine and manage the healthy lifestyle ,would be able to be healthy . Thyroid which is now days becoming a problems is avoidable thru professional knowledge ,there is chances of high thyroid if one is affected with high bp .Hence one must consult doctor if thyroid has affected to health ,here again dieticians is preferred option to make u careful for prevention and cure. more
