Electricity prices:
I would like to put forth my views on the prices of electricity in Delhi and NCR.
I have been told that since we have an open grid system in place, there is a provision in the act to buy power from private operators in power sector, provided the purchased load is more than certain limits. The price of this power purchased from private operators is almost 50% that of charged by the power distribution company in Delhi and NCR.
Can any body please check the act in this regard and inform so that the residents living in large societies and buildings could avail of this facility. more

Minimum 1 MW is the cap for any power purchase for any CGHS. Purchasing directly from a merchant will be the rate of power + wheeling charges. DISCOMs are doing the same with long term PPAs. The T&D loss is the component added once the power enters DISCOMs' grid. The difference would be only T&D component. 50% less price is not true............ more

Dear Arun ji, I could not very well understand your reply. What I want to know is that: - has such a power purchase agreement been done by any residential societies in Delhi/NCR? - if yes, what is the experience - is actual total price of purchased power is less than the state companies and by how much - what was the initial investment, if any - who was the broker to supply this power? more

If the power is purchased on short term basis in peak season than price of power is more if purchase agreements are done on long term basis than there is uniformity in prices the rates taken by private operators are maximum according to my knowledge . if long term agreements are done by Govt. than prices can come down. and more and more use of solar energy should be encouraged only installation cost is high more
