Why turn Vegeterian?
1. Lowers your cholesterol levels: The fact that plant sources do not contain cholesterol is enough to highlight the advantage of eating a vegetarian diet for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Your body produces cholesterol in some amounts and with daily intake of chicken or red meat your blood cholesterol levels will increase to level that it starts depositing on the walls of the blood vessels, giving rise to atherosclerosis.

2. Lowers your risk of heart disease: Animal products are rich sources of saturated fats which make them closely associated with coronary heart disease (CHD). A study analysing the association between risk of heart disease and diet found that vegetarians had a 24% lower risk of developing heart disease compared to those who eat meat. The risk was the lowest in lacto-ovo vegetarians (34% lower risk).

3. Reduces your risk of hypertension: Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians have equal chances of suffering from hypertension. But, vegetarians naturally enjoy a low sodium and low fat diet making them less likely to suffer from hypertension.

4. Prevents and controls diabetes: Being a vegetarian or vegan cuts down several risk factors like obesity that are linked to diabetes. According to a study non vegetarians are twice likely to suffer from diabetes compared to vegetarians. If you’re a diabetic, you can control your sugar levels better by switching to vegetarianism. A vegetarian diet makes your body more responsive to insulin.

5. Helps to control weight: Obviously, with low fat, cholesterol and triglycerides, a vegetarian diet will help you keep your weight under check. A low-fat vegetarian diet will also you lose weight if you’re obese, according to a study.

6. Reduces the risk of colon cancer: Colon cancer in rampant in people who consume less amount of legumes and fiber. Because vegetarian diet is rich in fibre and legumes, the risk of colon cancer is less among vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians. Not just colon cancer, vegetarians get natural protection against prostate, stomach, breast and lung cancer.

7. Reduces the risk of kidney stones and gall stones: Non-vegetarian diet is undoubtedly rich in protein. But sometimes this excess amount of protein can cause the body to excrete more amounts of calcium, oxalate and uric acid. These substances form the main component of kidney stones and gall stones.

8. Reduces your risk of death: Although debatable, being a vegetarian is thought to be associated with reduced risk of death (excluding other factors like smoking and alcohol consumption).
Although a vegetarian diet is beneficial for staying healthy, often due to lack of balanced diet vegetarians suffer from deficiencies of mirconutrients. You need to understand that shifting to vegetarianism is not enough to lead a healthy life; a balanced diet plays an equally important role. It’s not the restriction of meat that makes vegetarian healthy. It’s the variety of foods (fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains) you choose to include in your diet that keeps you healthy. more

There is not scientific fact that humans are herbivores. Humans by nature are omnivorous, that means they can handle both veg and non-veg diets. Our teeth and digestive system also indicate that we are omnivores. Giving example if nails is illogical, do we eat vegetation in the same way as animals does, obviously not, we cook our food and than eat. Nor is the human digestive system that of an herbivore. The intestines are far too short. Neither are the intestines as short as a pure carnivore's would be. This strongly suggests that humans are omnivores. God has made us that way, but it is our personal choice how we want to live our lives, nature is not suggesting to be pure vegetarian or pure non vegetarian, it should be balanced diet with mix of both. I fully endorsed the view of Mr HP Agarwal and others who have given their opinion without any biased or belief system. It is not only unscientific to say that human are vegetarian by nature but also illogical. Some personal example of being lived healthy life as vegetarian is not a proof, because we have examples of people who have lived similar or better life of being non vegetarian. Although it is not an evidence but I can quote that Mother Terresa was non-vegetarian and she lived long and much peaceful life, on the other hand Hitler was pure vegetarian and we know the history. The point is that diet system usually has no effect on someone life system or health. It is more of a personal choice and we should respect the choice of people as far as they are not trying to prove that their personal choice is the best and better way of life. more  
Guptaji, very good benefits of vegetarian food elaborated by you. I never knew. Now to the other side: One of my friend asked me: Now tell me what to do. I was vegetarian. I developed lot of body weakness and one doctor told me to take eggs, fish, chicken and less of mutton. I switched to Non-veg. It did pay me in terms of body strength. My body became better than earlier and my energy level also increased. But now you say: Non-veg is not good for health. I am confused. My question to you Guptaji, what is reply to this friend of mine who switched over from vegetarian eating to non-veg eating. Please advise if he has to continue eating non-veg, what should be the ratio. I mean in a week, how many times, he should take eggs, fish or chicken and red meat. This information will help him manage his life better. Thank you. more

Fornon vegiterian animals, God has made(1) suitable teeth, (2) suitable nails and (suitable digestive system. Humans do not have this. So God does not want humans to eat body parts of animals and birds. Humans can cut the body parts with knife. But humans cannot digest the mutton etc. To make is digestable additives are used, which create other health problems.

Vegetarians definitely have the advantages as mentioned by Mr Gupta. I agree with him. A number of non vegetarians are turning vegetarians consciously, particularly in the western world and the benefits of vegetarianism is gaining ground for n other parts of the world. more
