Kapil Sibal challenging AK to substantiate declaring him as corrupt. Needless to say Telecom industry ia a million dollar industry and it is also a fact that the telecom users are the most harassed consumers in the country. As on today there are more than 116 crore telecom users as against 120 crore Indian population. Telecom services contirbutes more than 20% of consumer complaints. Despite such statistics why Department of Telecommunication is not accepting the request for setting up of "Telecom Ombudsman" when all the important sector of industries such as Banking, Insurance and Electricity have got respective Ombudsman to deal with the complaint. Now the most surprising part of the telecom industries is that consumers also barred to take up their complaint with "Consumer Forums". As a telecom minister is it not his obligation to look after the interest of telecom users? Presently the telecom user is at the mercy of telecom companies and he/she has no recourse to get his problem redressed. The result is the telecom department has failed to address the issue of telemarketing calls and activation of value added service without being asked by the telecom users. More than 90% users are prepaid whose money gets deducted by the telecom companies in the name of value added services. More than 70% users are disadvantageous category of users who cannot approach to telecom companies call centres thus keep on looting the telecom users. Can Kapil Sibal respond as to why telecom ombudsman is not being set up despite banking, insurance and elctricity have got ombudsman. Possibly the answer is telecom industry has got huge business industry and can support corrupt elections at the cost of telecom poor community. more

Thanks Mr. Mickey Narula for your comments. It is a news to me that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is Telecom Ombudsman. TRAI does not listen to the individual complaint as per TRAI Act. However, it is a myth that TRAI has been able to resolve the issue of UCC and VAS. I am very well connected with telecom problems across the country. What are the compulsions of auto renewal of VAS without seeking explicit consent. As mentioned in my post, telecom users (mostly of rickshaw wallahas, uneducated class, maids having mostly prepaid connection) do not have access to customer care to get deactivation of VAS on whose mobiles, VAS are getting activated on its own and thus siphoning off money from such category of consumers. I myself have taken up the issue under RTI Act 2005 wherein CIC agreed such practices as highly unethical and given TRAI a time of three months. It is already six months, TRAI is yet to come out with compliance. What to talk of private inductry, even PSUs are not behind in violating norms. BSNL have been charging amount for migration fee which is illegal. MTNL have been befooling the customers sayin" one time non-refundable security amount". Please advise me how the security amount can be termed as 'Non-refundable". I feel you would agree that the telecom industry is many million dollar unethical business revenue and that is the reason telecom ministry is not accepting the proposal for telecom ombudsman which have been raised by me in media also. In the end, I would like to restate that TRAI is not the telecom ombudsman as well as there is no provision to take up case in consumer forum and telecom ministry is feeling comfortable with such situation else they would have made provision for telecom ombudsman and consumer forum. more

Not that I am a supporter of Kapil Sibbal or Congress Party but would definitely like to inform you Mr. Virmani that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India TRAI is the telecom ombudsman and since I'm in this industry I know all possible corrective measures are being taken to prevent UCC thru calls or texts and against said atrocities of telecom operators. more
