I was a active contributor to my PF kitty till October of 2014. Post that as I got an international assignment, no amount has been deposited in the account. How long can the PF account be dormant. Do I need to withdraw the accrued amount now or it can be there till I return back to India in about 5 years. Can I contribute voluntarily to my PF account on an annual basis, to avoid the account going dormant. Request your expert advice. more

From your querry it is not clear whether you are deputed for overseas empoyment or you have taken up the overseas appointment afresh. If your emp, oyer deputes to an internaitonal assignment, the remittances can be made through your employers. If it is a fresh one, the options is either you withdraw the contributions or obtain a scheme certificate. If you have any plans of returning back to India and taek up employment in that event scheme certificate, will help for calculating the nof of contribution years. Best choice is to withdraw the contributions. more

Thanks Raghonadh. I do not think I can come back to India within three years to withdraw the amount. Added to that we never know the support of the previous employer in this regard. I believe the suggestion given by Baskar is more more worth exploring as PF is definitely a benefit that will be useful when you are retired and there is no regular income. Baskar, Thanks for your suggestion.. Will try doing that. Can all the activity completed on line. Please guide Srivatasan Thanks for your idea, but any amount in any account in India will be subject to tax as once the PF is withdrawn it will be a savings amount and will attract the tax as per the prevailing rates. more
