I am a retired engineer and submitting my IT returns regularly and paying my taxes. I want one clarification. My wife has got some money from mydaughters and son and deposited in FD. The interest from the deposits comes about 25k. She is a home maker and no other income. Will the interest earned by her beincluded in my income? Is it necessary for her to file IT eventhough she is well below the ceiling of income more

If total income from all other sources is above income tax limits, bring it below taxable limits by investing in instruments of 80(C) [PPF, 5 years tax deposits, govt. tax free bonds etc) and under 80 (D) health policies/mediclaim policy. If she has no PAN no. and has not filed any Income Tax returns so far, there is no need for any clubbing her income with you or filing her individual ITR, if total income after deduction from taxable free investment is below income tax slabs. more
