A word of Thanks!

Many of you have been consistently sharing policy inputs as well as on state of things in your city/neighborhood.

This is greatly helping us in shaping policies for Swachh Bharat and is also providing a pulse from the ground on state of things in regards to the mission.

The Swachh Bharat survey from this circle helped us in understanding that we really need to empower and enable the Urban Local Bodies to improve Swachh Bharat delivery.

While the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India does not have jurisdication over urban local bodies which are a State Department, we are now engaged in a more focused effort to rope them in, engage them and encourage them to work with citizens in their area.

All of you are also requested to visit your Municipal Office and meet with the Municipal Commissioner/Leadership and encourage them to join the Swachh Bharat national and local circle. The link for the same is:

It is only with our joint efforts, we will be able to improve the delivery of these urban local bodies and drive towards the goal of Swachh Bharat.

Thank you for your regular participation. It is a direct contribution towards nation building.

In certain areas of Delhi, the job is very well done. Central/Lutyens Delhi and Diplomatic areas are always clean. So it is possible. The public also has a duty. Who makes the mess on the roads? Not the sanitary workers. The little khokas/ snack shops on the pavements should be fined heavily if they allow trash to collect around their shops. They serve tea in paper cups and their customers throw them on the ground. Each shop should have a garbage bin and request their customers to use it. Take a lesson from the municipal markets in Mumbai. The lanes between the shops have divisions painted on the floor. Each shopkeeper must keep his area clean or he is fined. After the third fine, he is evicted from the market. They don't care who makes the mess. The shopkeeper is responsible. more
